Students decide the role of a good citizen by identifying and describing attributes of responsible citizenships in second grade, by interviewing school staff, community leaders, read aloud books, and viewing videos for community citizenship. Cooperative groups will present their findings orally describing posters with examples of good citizenship for an audience of peers and school personnel.
After the lessons students will analyze and evaluate the effects of responsible citizenship in the classroom, its affects for the school and, the community.
Connection: Students decide if animal communities demonstrate good animal citizenship. Then, students will present their understanding for a good citizen to second grade students in the role of facilitator for good citizenship. Driving Question: How can we become responsible citizens?
Content Standards to be taught and assessed:2.C&G.2.1 Exemplify characteristics of good citizenship through historical figures and everyday citizens. 2.C&G.2 Understand the roles and responsibilities of citizens. ELA: With guidance and support from adults, recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question.
Major Student Project: Interviews, letter writing, addressing an envelope, and journal writing. Poster development, & Presentation Poster to be displayed throughout the school building.
